Wednesday's shooting death of a man at a house on Labadie Avenue was justified because he was breaking into the home at the time, police said Thursday.

No charges are being filed against the resident who fired the fatal shot. Police say the case has been classified as a justifiable homicide.

At issue in the case is the Maryland statute which says that the Secretary of the State Police can issue a carry permit if the applicant “has good and substantial reason to wear, carry, or transport a handgun, such as a finding that the permit is necessary as a reasonable precaution against apprehended danger.” Md.Code Ann., Pub. Safety § 5-306(a)(5)(ii).

In today’s decision on the merits, the “good and substantial reason” requirement was ruled to violate the Second Amendment.

A THIEF wants his victim to be prosecuted for having a gun in her house.

Guy Whitelaw broke into the 63-year-old widow's home and stole jewellery and £1700 in cash.

He also grabbed a wooden box from the woman's safe and found a revolver inside. The old gun belonged to the victim's late husband and did not have a licence.

After being arrested, Whitelaw, 28, told police that the woman should be charged.

And the Crown are are now considering bringing a prosecution against her.

Yes, we desire high capacity magazines specifically because they allow us to kill a lot of people very quickly, so that you, Rep. McCarthy, and your cohorts will think twice about pillaging the population and remember that you too are bound by the letter of the Constitution.

Authorities in Georgia say a grandmother foiled a robbery attempt by two armed men by getting into a shootout with them, injuring one man.

My doctor asked me if I had guns in my house and also if any were loaded. I , of course, answered yes to both questions. Then he asked why I kept a loaded gun close to my bed. As the debate raged last week over the attempt to pass a law that would allow U.S. citizens to be detained indefinitely without trial, Americans were busy preparing for their own form of ‘homeland security’, as gun sales hit an all time high for a single day on Black Friday.

Originating from research by Salt Lake City trainer Dennis Tueller and popularized by the Street Survival Seminar and the seminal instructional video "Surviving Edged Weapons," the "rule" states that in the time it takes the average officer to recognize a threat, draw his sidearm and fire 2 rounds at center mass, an average subject charging at the officer with a knife or other cutting or stabbing weapon can cover a distance of 21 feet.

The implication, therefore, is that when dealing with an edged-weapon wielder at anything less than 21 feet an officer had better have his gun out and ready to shoot before the offender starts rushing him or else he risks being set upon and injured or killed before he can draw his sidearm and effectively defeat the attack.

The Minnesota legislature is working up a new law that makes it justifiable to pull a gun and shoot someone on mere suspicion of a threat.

House Bill 417, introduced by state House Speaker Calvin Say (D-20), would require county chiefs of police to issue Hawaii Firearm Permits. Senate Bill 835 is the companion measure introduced by state Senator Sam Slom (R-8), who also introduced Senate Bill 836, which would authorize chiefs of police to issue licenses to openly carry firearms. Human beings only have two ways to deal with one another: reason and force.
