Although some attest to the safety of artificial sweeteners like aspartame, these sweeteners have actually been shown to cause considerable harm.

The study looking at the relationship between soft drink consumption and pregnancy outcome found that preterm delivery risk rises 38 percent for pregnant women having 1 or more servings of artificially sweetened drinks per day. What’s more, consuming 4 or more servings daily was associated with an increased risk of 78 percent...

MANHATTAN (CN) - New York Times reporter Charlie Savage has lost his effort to expose the U.S. government's secret interpretation of a section of the Patriot Act, a federal judge ruled.

Meanwhile, the dismissal marks the second time that a Manhattan federal judge turned down Savage's attempts to unearth information about national security policies that have troubled civil libertarians.
Last November, U.S. District Judge Robert Patterson snuffed requests for the Federal Bureau of Investigation to break down how many of its inquiries looked into criminal activity versus national security threats.

This legislation will prevent local, county and state governments from adopting the International Council for Local Environmental Initiatives (ICLEI) programs.

ICLEI is a UN agency that provides “local” community plans, software and training to towns and cities that pay their dues.

Washington •French President Francois Hollande said Friday he would carry out his pledge to withdraw combat forces from Afghanistan by year’s end, two years earlier than the U.S. ally once planned. He made the declaration to President Barack Obama in the Oval Office.

Speaking after the White House meeting, Hollande said he stands by a campaign promise to withdraw troops, but said France will keep supporting Afghanistan in a "different way." The war, more than a decade old, draws even less public support in France than in the United States.

The propaganda machine, in a desperate attempt to regain some small measure of credibility, employed an interesting technique this week, Jeopardy! Power Players. All this week the number one game show in the United States featured contestants drawn from the ranks of the mainstream propagandists. A 36-year-old man from Philadelphia said he and eight others were arrested and detained late Wednesday night after a Chicago police raid at an apartment near 32nd and Morgan.

Darrin Annussek is in town this weekend to participate in the NATO protests. He said he and the eight others were handcuffed to a bench and shackled for 18 hours straight with no communication from police.

He and five others were released Friday without being charged. They were told they were being investigated for felony conspiracy. Three others are still being detained.

CHICAGO (CBS)–Nurses from Chicago and across the country held a contained, peaceful rally Friday at Daley Plaza over the initial concerns of city officials who are hosting this weekend’s NATO summit.

The protest, which drew an estimated 1,000 people, was organized by National Nurses United, which wants NATO to pay more attention to health care needs around the world.

CHICAGO (CBS) – NATO protesters, including Occupy Chicago members, briefly shut down the Michigan Avenue bridge and slowed traffic around the Loop in an impromptu march following a peaceful rally held by a nurse’s union at Daley Plaza this afternoon.

After a US federal court blocked NDAA indefinite detention of US citizens the House of Representatives passes the 2013 NDAA which reauthorizes it.

US district judge Katherine Forrest, in New York City's eastern district, found that section 1021 – the key section of the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) – which had been rushed into law amid secrecy and in haste on New Year's Eve 2011, bestowing on any president the power to detain US citizens indefinitely, without charge or trial, "facially unconstitutional". Forrest concluded that the law does indeed have, as the journalists and peaceful activists who brought the lawsuit against the president and Leon Panetta have argued, a "chilling impact on first amendment rights". Her ruling enjoins that section of the NDAA from becoming law.

In her written opinion, the judge noted that she had been persuaded by what the lead plaintiffs – who include Pulitzer prize-winner Chris Hedges of the Nation Institute, editor Jennifer Bolen of RevolutionTruth, Noam Chomsky, Daniel Ellsberg, co-founder of Occupy London Kai Wargalla, Days of Rage editor Alexa O'Brien, and the Icelandic parliamentarian and WikiLeaks activist Birgitta Jónsdóttir – had argued. In their testimonies (in court and by affidavit), these plaintiffs compiled a persuasive case that they had "standing" to sue because it was reasonable for them to worry that they could conceivably could be detained indefinitely under the section 1021 law because their work requires them to have contact with sources the US government might assert were "terrorists" or "associated forces" of al-Qaida.

In a series of preemptive raids to crackdown on planned protests of the NATO meeting in Chicago activists are being held in jail without charge.

According to an interview with National Lawyers Guild (NLG) spokesman Kris Hermes, Chicago police officers raided a Bridgeport apartment complex on Wednesday evening without a valid warrant and detained up to nine people without cause.

Thirty to 50 veterans of the Iraq and Afghanistan Wars may have fought hard for or suffered for their medals, but this weekend, they plan to hand those medals back during the NATO summit in Chicago, MSNBC reports. The group will stage the demonstration in protest of the war on terror, according to the itinerary for Sunday published on the blog Iraq Veterans Against the War. The group will convene at 10 a.m. for music and speeches and at 3 p.m. march to the convention center where the NATO meeting will take place to return the medals, according to the itinerary.

A couple of months ago, one of those dubious leaks made by “unnamed US officials” caught my eye. US media did something it doesn’t often do; it publicised ‘secret’ Israeli government policy. Giving five minutes of prime time TV to Iranian scientist Mohammad Javad Larijani, brother of Ali Larijani, philosopher and chairman of the Parliament of Iran, two “senior U.S. officials” confirmed for NBC News what Mohammad Larijani was telling them: that Israel was behind the assassinations of Iranian scientists.

Specifically, the US officials stated that Israel’s Mossad was financing, training and arming an Iranian dissident group that goes by many names, but which we’ll call the People’s Mujahedin of Iran (MEK) for now. In return, the MEK is “providing Israel with information.” Speaking through NBC, these unknown officials confirmed what Larijani and the Iranian government have been saying for years: that Israel, through the MEK, carried out the attacks in which motorcycle-borne assailants attached sophisticated magnetic bombs to the exterior of the victims’ cars. The US officials further stated that the Obama administration is aware of the assassination campaign but has no direct involvement.

The National Defense Authorization Act signed by President Obama on the eve ofthe New Year has now come to a standstill. The marriage license began in the middles ages as a private contract between two families. Most of the time this was recorded in the local church with or without eyewitnesses. Usually the word of a couple that stated they were married was sufficient to have the marriage recorded as such.

According to Black's Law Dictionary, the word license is defined as - "Permission by competent authority to do an act which without such permission, would be illegal."

In other words, the government makes something that was lawful to do, illegal. They then charge you a fee (which is a bribe) to turn their backs and give you a permit that allows you to break the law that they just said was illegal to do!

Tens of millions of “aid” funds from the United Kingdom (UK) have been used to forcibly sterilize women in India. The US and the World Bank is also sending funds through “foreign-aid programs”.

India now has an estimated 1.2 billion people. The campaign for mass sterilization originated in the 1970s. Its first incarnation was halted after mass riots which forced the Indian government to back down.

The global Elite are convinced that the amassing of people is “bad for the environment”.

Facebook went public today. Through this move the value of the company will go to around $100 billion. Facebook’s founder, Mark Zuckerberg, at the ripe old age of 28, has amassed $17.5 billion and a thousand more millionaires are to be made. One fellow will get $100 million for creating the mural for Facebook.

So where did all this wealth come from? Those trying to justify this gross enrichment of a handful of preselected future ultra elitists, would credit advertising. Well that is not quite true. This is what really happened.

Donna Summer, the "Queen of Disco" who died on Thursday from lung cancer at the age of 63, believed that she contracted the disease after inhaling toxic dust from the collapsed Twin Towers on 9/11.

Summer had talked at length about the traumatising effects of 9/11, revealing in a 2008 interview how she had suffered severe depression following the attacks. She also reportedly told friends that she believed the toxic dust, which contained 2,500 contaminants, including known carcinogens such as asbestos, lead, mercury and dioxin, caused her lung cancer.

If exposure to toxic 9/11 dust did indeed kill Summer, she would not be the only victim...

It further only reinforces the mountains of related evidence that has surfaced, not the least of which is Michele Obama's own public statements about their returning to Barack's "homeland" in Africa to conduct a public AIDS test stunt. Thanks to a misbegotten ruling from a divided Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, police in nine states have been left at an insurmountable disadvantage when dealing with criminal suspects. At least, that’s what we’re told in a legal brief submitted to the Supreme Court by a coalition of police unions.
The ruling that is fraught with such awful implications, Brooks v. City of Seattle, involved a patently unnecessary Taser attack upon a woman who was seven months pregnant. The unarmed woman, who was not suspected of a violent crime, posed no threat to the three – yes, three – valiant officers who assaulted her. She was uncooperative, but did not offer any violent resistance.

Her sole “offense” was to refuse a demand that she sign a traffic ticket that was eventually dismissed.

California Governor Jerry Brown claims California has no option but to cut public services to address a state budget deficit of ~ $16 billion:

“You name it, and we’ve got to cut it.”

California could be its own bank to issue interest-free credit to itself to close the budget deficit, similar to what North Dakota does as the only state with increasing budget surpluses. Governor Brown knows of this option; he vetoed the bill to document the benefits.

Key US counter terrorism actions in Yemen
Since 2011 US counter terrorism operations in Yemen have been conducted by both the Pentagon and the Central Intelligence Agency. Attacks are aimed at Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula and more recently, Ansar al-Sharia.

US activity may also consist of naval bombardments and air strikes, often in conjunction with, or in support of, the Yemen military.

As Yemen came under severe pressure during the Arab Spring and militants seized control of cities and towns in the south, the US significantly stepped up its attacks, most notably with drone strikes.

Although their presence over there is not a secret (since it was announced about 10 years ago and you can see some by simply pointing Google Earth on Djibouti International Airport, as done in this interesting OSGEOINT analysis) what’s still unclear is what eight U.S. F-15Es are currently doing in the Horn of Africa.

They are reportedly serving in support of Combined Joint Task Force – Horn of Africa, as an Expeditionary Squadron of the 380th Expeditionary Operations Group, based at Al Dhafra, in the United Arab Emirates, and responsible for the “war on terror” in the region, but what’s their actual mission remains a (sort-of) mystery.

Even if the American military presence across the world is usually very well advertised, the U.S. keep a low profile on the operations launched by the Air Force’s Strike Eagles from Eastern Africa.

The reason for such prudence maybe that, along with the Reaper drones, even the F-15Es are conducting air strikes in Yemen (and Somalia).

No farmer in their right mind wants to poison pollinators. When I spoke with one Iowa corn farmer in January and told him about the upcoming release of a Purdue study confirming corn as a major pesticide exposure route for bees, his face dropped with worn exasperation. He looked down for a moment, sighed and said, "You know, I held out for years on buying them GE [genetically modified or engineered] seeds, but now I can't get conventional seeds anymore. They just don't carry 'em."

The problem is that those F-22 Raptors are duds. Pilots who fly them have been having their oxygen supply cut off with disturbing regularity, leading to deaths, crashes and to forced landings by pilots who realized they were getting dopey or losing consciousness.

Jamie Dimon has come out publicly to downplay the severity of his bank’s recent $2 billion loss.

The Central Investment Unit (CIU) utilized a different value risk calculation (VaR), which gave them greater leniency in the assessment of their trades. The purpose of the CIU was to covertly set up risky positions within the firm.

This CIU reported to Dimon directly and were given special privilege and separate risk management during their trades. The inception of this distinctive CIU goes back to 2005.

Because of the pressure and publicity of this incident, as well as the flippant demeanor of Dimon, the shareholders of JPMorgan Chase & co. have filed suit against Dimon in a New York Federal Court. They cite the $2 billion loss as the purpose of their legal action...

Don't you wish that someone had told you the truth before you went to college? Don't you wish that someone had told you that college has become a giant money-making scam that is designed to drain as much money out of students and parents as possible?

Yes, college can be a profitable endeavor if you pick your field of study wisely, if you can get someone else to pay for at least some of it, and if you can actually get a good job in that field when you graduate. But most high school students are never told to weigh the pros and the cons before they run off to college. The typical high school student is simply told to get into the "best school" that he or she can and to take out whatever loans are "necessary" to pay for that education. Our high school students are assured that those student loans will be paid back easily once they get "good jobs" following graduation.

The paper proves that Goldman Sachs does naked short selling. They will sell and short stocks they don't even have nor are able to get. In other words, just like the fractional reserve banking of creating money out of thin air with key strokes. Goldman Sachs pretended to own or had in their hands, stocks which they didn't have. They would short the stocks and do trades on non-existent stocks. They also did this to affect the stock price on the market. So they could make some stocks Fail. According to Tiempo, the DEA mistakenly fired upon the civilian boat because it was well-lit while the intended target -- a boat carrying drug traffickers -- was floating down the river without its lights on.

As they say, it's not over 'till it's over. Palestinian prisoners have been mass hunger striking since April 17. Others began earlier. Some haven't eaten for two months or longer.

On May 14, a deal was announced. Egypt negotiated one with the Israel Prison Service (IPS) and striker representatives. Palestine Prisoners Society head Qadura Fares confirmed it. So did Israeli authorities.

A new report from Fairewinds Associates, commissioned by the Friends of the Earth (FOE) and written by Arnie Gundersen, MSNE, reveals that the problems at the San Onofre nuclear power plant – the same facility which had an Augmented Inspection Team assigned to it by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission after failing a test – could have been prevented and the current “solutions” are, in fact, non-solutions.

According to the report, Southern California Edison made an end-run around federal regulatory guidelines when they replaced the defective steam generators at the San Onofre nuclear power plant.

This move is referred to as a “costly mistake that can’t be fixed by plugging the tubes that carry radioactive steam or by operating the plant at reduced power.”

Today, there are more than 7 billion people living on earth. For the global elite, that is problem number one. The vast majority of us don't spend much time thinking about global population issues, but for many among the elite it is an absolute obsession. Many of them truly believe that you are ruining their planet and they desperately want you to stop reproducing so much.

Among the elite, the belief that the world is grossly overpopulated and that this is causing most of our major global problems crosses all political, cultural and social boundaries. This philosophy is taught as gospel at the vast majority of all colleges and universities on the planet, and it is being relentlessly pushed by the United Nations, the WHO, the World Bank and national governments all over the globe.

The number of homeless people living on the streets of New York City increased by 23 percent in one year according to an annual survey conducted by the city’s Department of Homeless Services.

On January 30, volunteers for the organization counted an estimated 3,262 people living on the streets— a 23 percent increase from the 2,648 counted in 2011. The 2,925 volunteers walked approximately 15,000 miles while surveying the city. The largest numbers of homeless people living on the streets were found in Manhattan and Brooklyn. About half of the total number of people accounted for in the survey were living inside the city’s subway system.

But in their hunger, the strikers are acquiring names. I do not mean names on an obscure website, but ones that appear repeatedly in the daily press and on television, and have wide circulation in the social media. The most prominent name is that of Khader Adnan, a baker and MA student in economics at Birzeit University in the West Bank. Adnan was released from an Israeli jail after 66 excruciating days of hunger strike that commenced on February 21 of this year. He opted for self-starvation to protest what legal jargon calls “administrative detention,” which in this case amounted to abduction by a foreign state that had no legal grounds whatsoever for seizing him.

Most of the money Greece used to pay in full a 436-million-euro foreign law bond on Tuesday went to a vulture fund, the New York Times has reported.

“Almost 90 percent was delivered to the coffers of Dart Management, a secretive investment fund based in the Cayman Islands, according to people with direct knowledge of the transaction,” the newspaper said.

“Dart is one of the best known of the so-called vulture funds, which have a track record of buying the distressed bonds of nearly bankrupt countries — and if they do not get paid, suing the governments for the money.”

Two recently released medical reports indicate Trayvon Martin's knuckles were injured before he died and Zimmerman sustained injuries during the struggle with the teen, according to WFTV and ABC News.

Also on Tuesday, ABC News reported that Zimmerman had broken his nose and sustained two black eyes, cuts to the back of his head, and a minor back injury during the incident.

Now, they would like to make the latest version of their exceptional mission to the world known to the rest of us. It is finally in our interest, it seems, to be a good deal better informed about America’s covert wars in a year in which the widely announced "covert" killing of Osama bin Laden in Pakistan is a major selling point in the president’s reelection campaign.

For a small nation like Greece, that is an absolutely catastrophic number. At this point, the entire Greek banking system is in danger of collapsing.Meanwhile, banks in other troubled European nations are already on shaky ground. The Spanish banking system is an absolute disaster zone at this point and on Monday night Moody's downgraded the credit ratings of 26 Italian banks.

The situation in Italy is especially worth keeping a close eye on. As Ambrose Evans-Pritchard recently noted, things are not looking good for Italy at all....

If you had money in a Greek bank, why wouldn't you pull it out? If Greece leaves the euro, all euros in Greek banks will likely be converted to drachmas, and the value of those drachmas will almost certainly decline dramatically. In fact, it has been estimated that Greek citizens could see the value of their bank accounts decline by up to 50 percent if Greece leaves the euro.

KingCast Presents Nashua PD Blue.... and Black: The Arrest, Beating and OC Spraying of Jeffrey Riel and Another.

On or about 2 May Jeffrey Riel was walking along the railroad tracks as dozens of people do in Nashua every night when the police stopped him for allegedly suspicious activity as others walked around him at the same time. It turns out there was some sort of probation violation from Virginia, but those close to him say he may have been unaware because the DMV and other LE were not even aware. We will see how that unfolds. The following is a verbatim excerpt from my phone conversation with a witness to the beatings of Jeffrey Riel and Another who was present.
